Associate Professor Forbes McGain, Associate Dean Healthcare Sustainability, Faculty Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences receives Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society prestigious President's Medal.

Associate Professor Forbes McGain, Associate Dean Healthcare Sustainability in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and Footscray Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Director was awarded the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society President's Medal.

Associate Professor McGain, an anaesthetist, intensive care physician, sustainability advocate, innovative researcher, and now, the recipient of the President's Medal received the accolade for his contribution to intensive care medicine.

He was recognised by the society for not only exemplifying excellence in clinical practice and research, but also highlighting the importance of sustainable healthcare practices, setting a benchmark for future generations.

Associate Professor McGain was also acknowledged for his relentless pursuit of excellence, innovative approach to medicine, and commitment to teaching and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

As a sustainability leader, Associate Professor McGain has spearheaded a range of initiatives that have changed the way health services like ours operate. He also pioneered a recycling program that turns clear plastic hospital items into furniture and garden hoses and advocated for replacing single use medical equipment with reusable versions, such as green gowns.
