New Academy of Social Sciences in Australia Fellows

Professor Kim Dovey, Professor Michelle Foster, Professor Guyonne Kalb, Professor Roger Wilkins.

Four University of Melbourne academics have been welcomed as Fellows into the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA), recognising their outstanding contribution to the social sciences.

The peer-nominated process results in new members becoming part of a peak body called upon by government leaders to advise on public policy and address pressing issues facing Australian society.

The Academy welcomes new Fellows across disciplines that focus on understanding and influencing the social world, including geography, economics, law and public health.

This year’s Fellows are:

  • Professor Kim Dovey, Chair of Architecture and Urban Design in the Melbourne School of Design, whose research focuses on the social impacts of urban design, planning and architecture;
  • Professor Michelle Foster, Director of the Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness in Melbourne Law School, whose research focuses on international refugee law, human rights and statelessness;
  • Professor Guyonne Kalb, Professorial Fellow, Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research in the Faculty of Business and Economics, whose research focuses on micro-economics, labour supply issues and childcare; and
  • Professor Roger Wilkins, Professorial Fellow, Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research in the Faculty of Business and Economics, whose research focuses on poverty, social exclusion and welfare dependence.
