University researchers win National Health and Medical Research Council awards

University and affiliate researchers have been recognised by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) at their annual awards ceremony this week.

The NHMRC awards celebrate excellence in health and medical research, with NHMRC CEO Professor Anne Kelso AO noting that the awards were an opportunity to recongise these achievements at time of high community appreciation of the significance of research to Australia's health and wellbeing.

Award winners from the University and affiliates included:

  • Professor Dale Godfrey, Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity - 2021 NHMRC Peter Doherty Investigator Grant Award (Leadership)
  • Professor Andrew Roberts AM, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research - 2021 NHMRC Fiona Stanley Synergy Award
  • Professor Trevor Leong, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre - 2020 NHMRC David Cooper Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Award
  • Dr Simon Graham - 2021 NHMRC Sandra Eades Investigator Grant Award (Emerging Leadership)
  • Dr Hyon Xhi Tan - 2021 NHMRC Frank Fenner Investigator Grant Award (Emerging Leadership)
  • Dr Ouli Xie - 2021 NHMRC Gustav Nossal Postgraduate Scholarship Award
  • Professor Melissa Little, Murdoch Children's Research Institute - 2021 NHMRC Marshall and Warren Ideas Grant Award

The awards are named after Australian researchers who made major discoveries and delivered important health advances through their research.
