Funding to improve disability inclusion in humanitarian responses

Dr Alex Robinson from the Disability Inclusion Unit at the Nossal Institute for Global Health has received almost $140,000 of funding from ELRHA to identify innovations to improve disability inclusion in humanitarian responses.

Quality data is integral to inclusive preparedness and emergency response - without age appropriate disability data, interventions are not targeted, people are excluded, and the specific needs of people with a disability are not met during times of disaster.

Dr Robinson's research will be conducted in the Philippines, which is ranked the third most disaster-prone country in the world and vulnerable to cyclical natural hazards.

It is also subject to large health emergencies, such as infectious disease outbreaks.

The Disability Inclusion Unit will be collaborating with Australian Red Cross (ARC), Life Haven and Coalition of Services for the Elderly (COSE).
