Researchers working to prevent, treat and cure Multiple Sclerosis (MS) have been awarded grants from MS Australia to support their efforts.

The University of Melbourne and affiliate researchers include:

  • Associate Professor Justin Rubio, Principal Research Fellow at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health - continuing work on identifying a novel mechanism contributing to MS progression.
  • Dr Steve Simpson-Yap, Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne School of Population & Global Health - exploring the relationship of diet intake with clinical progression outcomes, including disability, fatigue and depression by accessing a national dataset of people with MS across the United Kingdom.
  • Professor Tomas Kalincik from the Melbourne Medical School and the Royal Melbourne Hospital - working to help identify patients who will benefit most from autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation treatment (AHSCT), a form of treatment reserved for patients with poorly controlled relapsing MS.

MS Australia, a not-for-profit organisation, awards  annual grants to support researchers investigating ways to treat, prevent and cure MS.
