Alliances and networks

Through our membership of strategic alliances, we continue to build on fostering a culture of international collaboration with researchers, universities and innovation companies around the globe. These knowledge partnerships help deliver innovative and meaningful experiences for students and staff.

Universitas 21 (U21)

Melbourne has continued to play a leading role within the U21 alliance – a global network of 27 research intensive universities – since its establishment in 1997 through the initiative of former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Gilbert. The alliance provides University of Melbourne students, researchers and staff access to distinctive opportunities to closely collaborate with the world’s leading universities.

Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)

APRU is a high impact research network that is finding solutions to some of the region’s most pressing challenges. University of Melbourne academics have a proud history of contributing to APRU’s cutting edge research on a wide range of issues from mental health training to water management.

Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA)

CASA is a unique international alliance bringing together 11 of the world’s leading universities to develop and deliver collaborative global mobility programs. Through CASA, the University has strengthened links with many of America’s finest institutions – Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, The University of Pennsylvania and Vanderbilt University – and Trinity College Dublin.

Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)

Through the ACU, the University of Melbourne joins over 500 members across 50 countries to support the development of higher education as a power for good across the Commonwealth and beyond. The Commonwealth Peace and Reconciliation Network first convened at Melbourne and brings together an interdisciplinary collective of academics, researchers and professional staff who work in the fields of peace, truth, justice and reconciliation.
