Michelle is an out and proud transgender woman. She is an Enterprise Fellow in the School of Biosciences and teaches in a Master of Biotechnology course. In addition to her work with the Pride in Action Network Michelle is Chair School of Biosciences Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Member of the Faculty of Science Diversity and Inclusion Committee and a Committee Member of Queers in Science. Michelle is a transgender activist in the LGBTI community and is a committee member of Transgender Victoria and the Australian GLBTIQ+ Multicultural Council. She is involved in the areas of sport, religion and inclusion at work. Michelle is also VicHealth ambassador for the 'This Girl Can' campaign to help women overcome barriers to becoming physically active. She was one of ten LGBTIQ elders featured in full length documentary “The Coming Back Out Ball Movie” which was the closing night film for the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2018 and had a commercial national release in December of that year. She is also a contributor to the first trans buddhist anthology “Transcending: trans buddhist voices” to be published by North Atlantic books in October 2019. Michelle is happily married with two adult children.
