The Senior Director Advancement, Development oversees the strategy for University-wide fundraising across Australia and internationally through a range of programs that include principal and major gifts, gifts in wills (bequests and planned gifts), donor relations, and research and prospective donor management.
Jonathan Cosgrove leads the Development shared service, shaping and delivering philanthropic programs and outcomes that support the University's ambitions. With over 20 years' of experience in higher education fundraising across Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America, Jonathan and his team engage with some of the University's most visionary donors.
Jonathan first joined the University of Melbourne Advancement in 2006, where he held a variety of development roles across multiple faculties. He then spent 5 years at the University of Queensland, enhancing the Advancement function as their Director of Advancement for Engineering, Architecture, and IT. After returning to the University of Melbourne for two and a half years to head up its major gift program and lead their international fundraising focus, he relocated to the UK to establish the fundraising strategy and operations at the UK's first greenfield university in over 40 years. He rejoined Melbourne at the start of 2022.
