About the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research (DVCR) portfolio
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research (DVCR) leads the strategic direction of the University of Melbourne’s research portfolio – Melbourne Research & Enterprise (MRE). MRE works to implement Strategy 2030 and Advancing Research 2030: Excellence for Impact to enable world-class discovery, strategic partnerships and translational pathways for the enduring benefit of society. The strategies are operationalised through funding coordination, intellectual property management, proof‑of‑concept and translation support, industry collaboration and commercialisation pathways.
The MRE portfolio is comprised of:
- Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), focused on cross-portfolio alignment and performance uplift
- Office of Research Management, responsible for research grants, contracts, infrastructure, ethics, integrity and finance
- Melbourne Enterprise, focused on uplifting research impact performance and responsible for Partnerships & Precincts, commercialisation, Melbourne Entrepreneurship Centre and the enterprise ecosystem.
The Melbourne Research & Enterprise portfolio plays a critical role in driving excellence, impact and innovation, and positioning the University as a trusted research partner of choice.
