Employability
The University runs a wide variety of employability focused initiatives for students that go beyond discipline-specific and technical knowledge to help our graduates achieve excellent career outcomes.
These additional skills and qualities, some of which are often referred to as 'soft skills', are increasingly regarded as necessary for successful participation in the workforce and are captured in the University's graduate attributes (academic distinction, active citizenship and integrity and self-awareness) and reflected in course and subject objectives.
Our employability initiatives include:
- Employment Fundamentals Program and Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Skills
- Work Integrated Learning within the curriculum
- Degree-related internships, work experience, mentoring, university-based research projects and graduate placements
- Melbourne Global Mobility Program
- Students@Work
- Careers and employability resources for students through the Careers Service and each of the Faculties
- Online resources to develop job seeking skills such as EmployME
- University or Faculty co-curricular programs and activities
Our strategic plan, Growing Esteem 2015–2020, commits to further expanding services offered to undergraduate and graduate students to improve career outcomes including: increasing experiential learning within the curriculum, particularly at the postgraduate level; access to structured work experience for undergraduates and flexibility for students to accommodate paid work; opportunities for an international experience through study abroad; and Work Integrated Learning or projects with our own world-leading researchers.
